The territory of Torpè has been inhabited since pre-nuragic times, as evidenced by the presence of some domus de janas and tombs of giants in the area. In the medieval documentation of the 12th century, the settlement was known as Torpè di Posada and was part of the Giudicato of Gallura. Later, after the Aragonese Conquest of Sardinia, it absorbed the inhabitants of nearby villages and was incorporated into the Barony of Posada. In the 17th century, it joined the County of Montalvo, the feud of the Masones Nin, and in the 18th century, it was involved in the colonization of the inhabitants of Buddusò. In 1839, the town became a municipality administered by a mayor and a municipal council.

The coat of arms and the gonfalon of Torpè were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on October 19, 2011. The gonfalon is a yellow flag, while the flag, granted with D.P.R. of February 10, 2015, is a yellow flag with a blue edging, loaded with the municipal coat of arms.
