Origins of the name
The name of the town, Torbole Casaglia, derives from two distinct settlements, Torbole and Casaglia. The name Torbole refers to the oldest settlement by order of foundation, while Casaglia progressed only in recent times.
History
Torbole Casaglia has a very interesting history. The territory dates back to at least prehistoric times, but the Roman settlement dates back to the first century AD. During excavations, Roman coins were found, demonstrating the flourishing economy of this territory. In the seventh century, a small monastery dedicated to San Martino di Tours was founded, around which the village probably grew. In 841, the lands became the property of the Brescian monastery of Faustino and Giovita Maggiore. In the thirteenth century, the territory was given to the Palazzi and in the following fourteenth century it passed to Boccaccino di Andrista di Vallecamonica. In 1422 it passed to the Milanese Giacomo Amigoni and then to the Cazzago family. In the fifteenth century, there were the troops of Roberto di San Severino. In recent times, Casaglia has developed thanks to land reclamation works that have eliminated swamps.
