Welcome to Montenero!

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to tell you about a charming place located in the province of Perugia: the hamlet of Montenero, which is part of the municipality of Todi. Here, you will feel like you have entered a small earthly paradise, as you will be surrounded by lush nature and you can enjoy numerous tourist attractions.

History

The history of Montenero is wrapped in several legends. One of them claims that the name derives from Mount Aeneas, while, according to a tuderte scholar named Pirro Stefanucci, the name comes from the Perugian family who settled here to escape battles.

Welcome to Montenero: art, history and nature in the heart of Umbria.

Monuments and places of interest

Montenero offers several tourist attractions of great historical and architectural interest. The Castle, for example, will attract your attention with its enchanting gardens, which will allow you to enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside. The Medieval Village, which surrounds the castle, will immerse you in a magical atmosphere and will make you discover the history of the place. Moreover, the Warehouses for the storage of the harvest will offer you a stop of architectural and cultural interest. Finally, you cannot miss admiring the view of the surrounding valley, with a view of the beautiful city of Todi.

Parish Church of San Filippo Neri

The parish church of San Filippo Neri, built in 1912, will leave you amazed by its facade with Gothic decorations in red terracotta. Inside, you can admire a stone baptismal font dating back to 1668, while on the sides of the altar there are two wonderful paintings: one by Polinori depicting "Christ and the Saints Anthony Abbot and Antonino", and the other by Bartolomeo Barbiani, representing "Madonna with Child and Blessed Tommasuccio, St. Augustine, St. Philip, and St. Joseph of Leonessa". The priest of the church is the friendly Don Alceste, who will welcome you with his kindness and his sunny presence.

Economy

The local economy is mainly based on agriculture and viticulture, which allow the production of the DOC "Colli Martani". By travelling through the countryside around Montenero, you can admire the beautiful vineyards that extend up to the horizon.
