The history of Quara
Origin and Middle Ages
The history of Quara dates back to the Middle Ages when the fraction was known as Aquaria. In a document from 1052, the "Capella de Aquaria", together with the castle of Toano, was owned by the late Marquis Bonifacio di Canossa. Later, it passed into the hands of Matilde di Canossa. In 1191, the "Capella de S. Salvatore de Aquaria" was consecrated by the bishop of Reggio Alberio and, in the documents of 1302 and 1318, it was dependent on the Pieve di Toano.
The castle of Quara and the thermal waters
At the end of the 13th century and the beginning of the 14th century, Quara became a fiefdom of the dà Dallo or Dalli family, which held the village until the end of the 16th century, except for a brief period when the Gonzaga family held control of the area. In 1338, during the period of Vannuccio da Dallo, Quara appeared for the first time in the list of castles. In 1454, the "Balneum Aquarium", a thermal spring with healing properties, was mentioned for the first time. However, today these waters are little known and the "factories" built by Luigi Dallo during the 16th century have completely disappeared.
The position of Quara
Quara is located on the northern slope of Mount Surano and stretches along a ridge that separates the Dolo valley from the Secchiello valley. This strategic position puts the fraction in an ideal position for hiking enthusiasts, given the numerous natural paths that surround it.
Daily life in Quara
In 2006, approximately 247 people lived in Quara. The fraction has a historic parish, whose territory includes Montebiotto, Lignano, and Crocetta. Quara is a perfect place for those seeking some peace and quiet, away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

Quara is famous for its via ferrata, which winds along the steep walls near the Dolo river. In this via ferrata, hikers can find two suspended bridges that add a bit of challenge to the hike. This path, also suitable for beginners, offers hikers a wonderful view of the surrounding nature.
