Located north of the isthmus of Catanzaro, the municipality of Tiriolo is located on a hill that marks the watershed between the valley of the Amato river on the Tyrrhenian side and that of the Corace on the Ionian side. To the northeast of the town are the rocky walls of a limestone spur.

The beginnings
Tiriolo is a municipality with a history dating back more than 2600 years. It is estimated that the village was founded by the Greeks around 600 BC. The name Tryoros derives from the three mountains that surround the village. According to some local legends, Ulysses stopped here during his travels, and the territory of Tiriolo would be the land of the Phaeacians described in the Odyssey.
Important moments
During the revolt of Spartacus, Tiriolo saw the two opposing armies, with the legions of Crassus on one side and the rebels of Spartacus on the other. In 1640, a bronze tablet bearing the text of the "Senatus consultum de Bacchanalibus" of 186 BC, concerning the prohibition of holding Bacchanalia, was found in the municipal territory.
