Terranova dei Passerini: an agricultural town with ancient history

Terranova dei Passerini is an Italian municipality located in the province of Lodi, in Lombardy. With a population of 931 inhabitants, Terranova is an ancient agricultural town, known for centuries as ''Terra Nuova". During the Napoleonic era, Cassina dei Passerini and Rovedaro were merged with the municipality of Terra Nuova, which officially took on the name "Terranova dei Passerini" in 1863, in honor of the politician Rinaldo dei Bonacolsi known as Passerino.

The Municipality of Terranova dei Passerini has a coat of arms and a gonfalon that were granted by a decree of the President of the Republic on February 8, 1973. The coat of arms depicts a fortress, a symbol of memory and impregnability, with three lilies (below the castle) and a crowned falcon (above, on the blue cloth), symbols of nobility and high morality. The gonfalon consists of a yellow flag with a blue band crossing it, on which the coat of arms and the name of the municipality are depicted.

Demography and ethnicities

As of December 31, 2009, foreigners residing in the municipality of Terranova dei Passerini accounted for 7% of the population, totaling 62 people. Among the most represented nationalities are India and Egypt.

Anthropogenic geography

The municipal seat of Terranova dei Passerini is located in the capital, currently called Terranova dei Passerini, but formerly known as Fornaci. The municipality has four geographic hamlets: Cascine, Cascinette, Cascinotti, and San Giacomo. There are also other localities in the area, including Cascine Barattè, Biraga, Biraghina, Campagna, Nuova, Rovedaro, San Giacomino, Sant'Alberto, and Terranova.

Administration and sports

Below is a list of local administrations. The town's football team was A.S. Terranova 1992 until the end of the 2014/2015 Lombard First Category championship. In the 2012/2013 season, they were the winners of the Second Category group O championship.

In general, Terranova dei Passerini is a peaceful and rural town that enjoys ancient history and traditions but also a warm and family atmosphere.
