Welcome to Terme Vigliatore!

Hello everyone and welcome to Terme Vigliatore! If you're looking for a quiet and picturesque place to spend your vacation, this town might be just what you're looking for. Located in the province of Messina, in Sicily, Terme Vigliatore is a charming village nestled between the peninsulas of Milazzo and the Tindari promontory, facing the beautiful Aeolian Islands.

Physical geography

The municipal territory of Terme Vigliatore is crossed by two torrential waterways, the Mazzarrà and the Patrì, which mark the eastern boundary with the municipality of Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto. In addition, there are also some smaller waterways locally called "saje", such as the Rodusa or Catanzaro, the Mollerino, and the Margiotto. All these water sources make Terme Vigliatore a fertile and lush place, with a variety of trees and plants thriving on its flat lands.

Anthropogenic geography

Terme Vigliatore is a single inhabited community, born from the merger of the two main urban centers of Terme and Vigliatore and some smaller villages such as San Biagio, Marchesana and Acquitta. San Biagio is located between Terme and Vigliatore, along the SS 113 Settentrionale Sicula, while Marchesana is located along the coastal area, characterized by villas and houses mainly populated by vacationers during the summer. Acquitta, on the other hand, is a beautiful seaside hamlet on the border with the hamlet of Tonnarella in the municipality of Furnari, certainly a place not to be missed if you love fishing boats and the sea.

History

Terme Vigliatore has a truly interesting history, dating back to ancient times. We know that its sulfur waters were already known in Roman times, as demonstrated by the presence of the "Fons Veneris", the famous "Venus' Fountain" in the area. The name "Vigliatore", instead, derives from the nearby river of the same name (called Vigilator in Roman times) while the name "Terme" derives from the thermal baths that were once present in the area. The area was part of the municipality of Castroreale until 1966, when it became an independent municipality.

Monuments and places of interest

In this area, there are also several monuments and places of interest that are an absolute must-visit. The Roman Villa of San Biagio, dating back to the 1st century, is a historic Roman villa that features a system of channels for the use of thermal waters. Inside, you can admire a beautiful mosaic floor. The Church of the Benedictines, located in the center of the Benedictine Park, is a very suggestive sacred place that hosts the "Fiera di Termini" on September 13th, as well as the beginning of the celebrations of the Patron Saint Mary of Graces.

In conclusion

In short, if you're looking for a peaceful and charming place to spend an unforgettable vacation, Terme Vigliatore is certainly an excellent choice. You can enjoy the beauty of nature, visit ancient monuments, and participate in the local community's festivities. Come and discover everything that Terme Vigliatore has to offer: you will certainly be enchanted by its tranquility and beauty!
