Origin and Characteristics
The origin of Lake Terlago is still debated among scholars. Although most scholars agree on its origin as a "valley of exhalation," related to glacier erosion, different voices instead claim that the lake is of karstic origin. The water level of Lake Terlago is capricious, as is that of other lakes in the Valley of the Lakes. This aspect has raised some theories that the lake may have an underground emissary. The lake's waters have a unique olive-brown color due to the variety of aquatic flora that is not found elsewhere in Trentino.
