Tergu, the story of a Sardinian municipality
Tergu, also known as Zelgu in Sassarese, is a municipality located in the province of Sassari, in Sardinia. With a population of about 610 inhabitants, the municipality is part of the historical region of Anglona and was declared independent on February 10, 1980, following a popular consultation.
History
The area where the municipality of Tergu is located has been inhabited since the Nuragic period. During the Middle Ages, the territory was part of the giudicato of Torres, in the curatoria of Montes. It is believed that the construction of the Church of Our Lady of Tergu dates back to the late 11th century and was commissioned by Judge Mariano I of Torres.

The flag of Tergu is a split banner of green and red, while the coat of arms represents a black deer on a white background, surrounded by a red border.

Soccer
The main sport practiced in Tergu is soccer. The municipality's soccer team, F.C. Tergu Plubium, merged with the Ploaghe society and changed its name to A.S.D. Torres in 2017. The team plays in the Eccellenza Sardegna championship.
