A trip to Lesignano Palmia
Hello friends! Today I'll tell you about Lesignano Palmia, a small geographic fraction located in the province of Parma. Join me on a journey as we discover the beauty of this place!
A bit of physical geography
Lesignano Palmia is located less than 3 kilometers from the capital and rises 453 meters above sea level. It is situated on the right side of Sporzana and on the edges of Val Baganza. Its hilltop location allows for spectacular panoramic views of the surrounding area.
A bit of history
During the Middle Ages, the area was presided over by the Palmia Castle, built on the orders of one of the Comitatu Parmensi noble families. In 1054, Rudolf of Viarolo purchased it from his relative Alberto of Viarolo, son of Magnifredo. The fief then passed to the nobles of Palmia, who in 1343 sold it to Rolando de Rossi, Ugolino de Rossi and Andreasio de Rossi. In 1493, in Lesignano Corte di Palmia, the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary was built, which depended on the nearby Pieve of Bardone.
During the sixteenth century, the area passed to the counts Bajardi, who were its owners until the abolition of feudal rights decreed by Napoleon in 1805. Then the new municipality of Selva del Bocchetto was formed, which after a few months was renamed Lesignano Palmia.
Monuments and places of interest
The only main monument in Lesignano Palmia is the Church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary. This place of worship originally dates back to 1493 but was completely rebuilt in the first half of the seventeenth century. The bell tower was added in 1649 and the exterior was plastered and the interior decorated between 1950 and 1960. The church was repaired in the roofs between 1970 and 1975 and then completely restored and structurally consolidated between 2003 and 2004. Inside, the main altar in polychrome marbles dates back to the original era of the church.
Conclusions
In conclusion, Lesignano Palmia is a magnificent place to visit. Its hilltop location offers breathtaking views, while its centuries-old church is a unique attraction. If you are in the area and have the opportunity to visit, I highly recommend it.
