It is an ancient village, with medieval origins, which developed mainly between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.
The history of Putignano
Although it has also been called Pedugnano, Putignano has a history that dates back to the medieval era and was mentioned in ancient documents under the toponym of "Petoniano" or "Peteniano". The church of San Felice, located in Putignano, was first mentioned in 1278, when the canons of the cathedral of Teramo approved the election of Berardo di Iacobo di Pasio as rector of the church of San Felice. The village expanded mainly between the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to the construction of numerous stone houses and palaces.
