Putignano: a peaceful hamlet of Teramo

Putignano is a charming hamlet in the municipality of Teramo, located just 5 km from the city center, at the foot of Monte Tre Croci and a stone's throw from the road leading to Villa Gesso and Roiano. It is an ancient village, with medieval origins, which developed mainly between the end of the 18th century and the beginning of the 19th century.

Although it has also been called Pedugnano, Putignano has a history that dates back to the medieval era and was mentioned in ancient documents under the toponym of "Petoniano" or "Peteniano". The church of San Felice, located in Putignano, was first mentioned in 1278, when the canons of the cathedral of Teramo approved the election of Berardo di Iacobo di Pasio as rector of the church of San Felice. The village expanded mainly between the 18th and 19th centuries, thanks to the construction of numerous stone houses and palaces.

In addition to the church, there are also stone palaces from the 18th and 19th centuries, such as the houses that characterize the old district. Furthermore, at the southern entrance of the village, there is the old fascist school building of the hamlet, built during the 1920s and which has been unusable since 2008. However, just a few steps from Putignano, there is also Quartiere Piano della Lenta, a heavily urbanized neighborhood along the SS 81 Piceno Aprutina road, which allowed for a moderate residential development of the hamlet.
