Caprafico: A Small Hilltop Village with a View of Gran Sasso

Hello everyone! Today I will tell you about Caprafico, a small hamlet in the municipality of Teramo, located along State Road 81, between Villa Vomano and the capital city. This small village has about 400 inhabitants and is situated in a hilly area with a breathtaking view of the Gran Sasso massif.

The Church of Sant'Emidio

Among the monuments of Caprafico is the Church of Sant'Emidio, built in the 1950s, with a rectangular plan and a single nave. The gabled facade is decorated with a central oculus and a portal with a ceramic tile frame. In the center of the facade is depicted the Madonna and Child, while around there are the saints. The bell tower is a tower and the perimeter of the church is built with red bricks.

Events in Caprafico

Every year, Caprafico is enlivened by two important events: the patronal festival of Santa Colomba and Sant'Emidio and the Mazzarella Festival. The patronal festival takes place in August and involves all the inhabitants of the village in a series of religious and cultural events. The Mazzarella Festival, on the other hand, is a gastronomic event that takes place on the last weekend of July and attracts many visitors from nearby towns. Mazzarella is a typical dish of the Teramo cuisine, which consists of a sort of frittata made of chicory, eggs, and pecorino cheese.

The Economy of Caprafico

The economy of Caprafico is mainly based on agriculture, with the production of olives, grapes, cereals, and vegetables. However, many commercial and service activities are directly linked to the two nearest towns, Villa Vomano and Teramo, where there are shops, supermarkets, and restaurants.
