Welcome to Tenno: a small town surrounded by nature in Trentino-Alto Adige
Hi guys! Today I'm taking you on a journey to discover Tenno, a small town surrounded by nature in Trentino-Alto Adige. With only 1988 inhabitants, Tenno is a peaceful and relaxing place, but full of history, culture and natural beauties to explore.
History: a medieval castle and ancient villages
The history of Tenno is ancient and fascinating. The Castle of Tenno, dating back to the 12th century, dominates the town with its impressive presence and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Garda.
The ancient villages in the municipal territory also carry a long history. The medieval village of Canale di Tenno, nestled between the town of Tenno and the lake, has been included in the list of the most beautiful villages in Italy. Here you can take part in Rustico Medioevo, a summer event that recreates the atmosphere and games of the Middle Ages. During the Christmas period, it is worth visiting the characteristic Christmas markets.
Monuments and places of interest: churches and Lake Tenno
For lovers of sacred art, Tenno offers many churches to visit. The Church of the Immaculate in Tenno is the parish church of the town, while the Church of San Lorenzo Martire is an example of Romanesque architecture. The Church of Sant'Antonio, on the other hand, is located in the hamlet of Ville del Monte, as are the Churches of San Giovanni Battista and San Leonardo. Finally, the Church of San Zeno is located in the hamlet of Cologna.
Lake Tenno is one of the most famous places in the municipal territory. Thanks to its crystal clear and swimable waters, it is a destination for tourists and locals especially during the summer. But the lake is also a place of natural interest, where you can take suggestive walks.
Hamlets: Canale di Tenno and Ville del Monte
Inside the municipal territory of Tenno there are many characteristic hamlets. The largest hamlet is Ville del Monte, made up of four villages: Sant'Antonio, Pastoedo, Canale di Tenno and Calvola. This last village, 700 meters above sea level, was inhabited only by shepherds during the winter for a long time and connected by asphalt roads only in recent times.
Canale di Tenno, on the other hand, has hosted the set of some films set in the medieval period and presents an annual festival that reproduces ancient atmospheres and trades.
Economy: tourism and agriculture
Although Tenno is a very small municipality, the economy is mainly based on summer tourism thanks to the natural beauties in the area and the Christmas markets during the Christmas period. However, many agricultural companies and animal farms are also present on the municipal territory, which together with tourism constitute the main activities of support for the town.
So here's a brief overview of Tenno, a charming place to visit to immerse yourself in the beauty of Trentino's nature and history. Are you ready to go?
