Telve di Sopra

Telve di Sopra: a town to discover

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a town worth discovering: Telve di Sopra. Located in the province of Trento, this enchanting place has a population of 594 inhabitants and is located on the slopes of Colle San Pietro or "Ciolina". In this article, I will talk to you about the monuments and places of interest of the town, its demographic evolution, administration, and other curiosities.

Monuments and places of interest

One of the most beautiful monuments to visit in Telve di Sopra is the Church of San Giovanni Battista. This building dates back to the 18th century and is an example of the typical baroque architecture of Trentino.

But there are also other churches worth visiting, such as the Church of San Giovanni del Sassetto or the Madonna Addolorata, which dates back to the 13th century. Additionally, in Telve di Sopra, you will find the monumental Way of the Cross on Monte San Pietro, built and inaugurated in 1994, and the ethnographic museum collection "Tarcisio Trentin".

But that's not all: Telve di Sopra also boasts characteristic terraces with dry-stone walls visible throughout the agricultural area and not just along the slopes of Colle San Pietro. The Masi Fratte hamlet, with its square and ancient rustic houses, is another must-visit destination. Here you will also find a sacred shrine dedicated to San Martino, patron saint of the hamlet.

If you love excursions, there are many mountain locations to visit in Telve di Sopra, such as Suerta and Porchera, with their typical clusters of huts and churches. In particular, Malga Ezze, located in the heart of Lagorai at an altitude of 1954 meters in the wild Val di Fregio, is a symbolic and emblematic place indissolubly linked to the community of Telve di Sopra. During the summer, here you can meet cows, sheep, donkeys, and goats. Additionally, the Malga is an ideal starting point or rest stop for excursions to the surrounding peaks such as Sasso Rotto, Cima Sette Selle, Cima Ezze, etc.

Finally, it is worth mentioning the bell placed on the bell tower of the parish church of Telve di Sopra, dating back to 1414 and cast in Venice by Magister Antonius. The bell, restored and relocated in the bell tower along with the other bells in 2015, is the oldest "dated and signed" one known in Trentino and is protected by the superintendent for the historical and artistic heritage of the autonomous province of Trento.
