Telgate Calcio: a brief history of the club

Telgate Calcio, also known as Gruppo Sportivo Telgate, was an Italian football club based in Telgate, in the province of Bergamo. Founded in 1980 as Gruppo Sportivo Intim Helen, it was one of many clubs that tried to make their way in Italian football through sponsorship. In 1987, the club changed its name to Gruppo Sportivo Telgate and managed to gain promotion to Serie C2.

The Promozione championships

After several attempts to establish itself in local football, Telgate Calcio began to shine in the 1983-1984 season, when it won the B group of Promozione and conquered the top tier of amateur tournaments, thanks to the victory over Grassobbio in the final game.

The Interregionale

In 1984-1985, the team made its debut in national-level football, participating in the Campionato Interregionale. The first year it was saved thanks to the eighth place, but the following year came the promotion, obtained by winning the C group of the Campionato Interregionale in the 1986-1987 season, with 49 points.

The end of the partnership

In 1989, Telgate Calcio merged with Associazione Calcio Palazzolo, founding Associazione Calcio Palazzolo-Telgate and marking the end of the Bergamo partnership.

Personalities

Among the protagonists of the club over the years, we find President Angelo Finazzi and coaches Luigi Bresciani, as well as some players such as Angelo Seveso, Walter Mostosi, and Gian Luigi Brambilla, protagonists both in the promotion season and in the following years in Serie C2.

The Telgate Municipal Stadium

The Telgate Calcio team played home games at the Telgate Municipal Stadium, a structure owned by the municipality that also hosted other local teams such as Borgosesia, Grassobbio, and Colognese.

Conclusion

Telgate Calcio represents one of the many stories of teams that tried to establish themselves in Italian football thanks to the passion of their fans and the commitment of their players, leaving a mark in the history of local and national football. The promotion won in the 1986-1987 season was undoubtedly one of the club's greatest moments of success, but Telgate Calcio will always be in the hearts of its fans.
