Borgonuovo

Borgonuovo: a small Italian hamlet rich in history

Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about Borgonuovo, a hamlet in the municipality of Teano, located in the northeast and bordering with Caianello and Vairano Patenora. Although only inhabited by 145 people, Borgonuovo has a very interesting and important history for Italy.

Physical geography

Let's start by talking about the geographical location of this small hamlet. Borgonuovo is located at about 185 meters above sea level, surrounded by hills and mountains that make it a very charming place. The view from the Church of Maria Santissima della Libera, located right in the center of Borgonuovo, is truly spectacular.

Monuments and places of interest

Speaking of this church, it represents one of the main places of interest in Borgonuovo. The Church of Maria Santissima della Libera is a very ancient and of great historical and artistic value. It was built in the seventeenth century and inside it preserves some religious works of art. I highly recommend visiting it, even just to admire its architecture and style.

But the most important moment for Borgonuovo came in 1860, when this hamlet was chosen as the location of the Teano Meeting between Giuseppe Garibaldi and Vittorio Emanuele II. This meeting marks the conclusion of the Expedition of the Thousand and the subsequent unification of Italy.

Notes

Historical sources tell us that Borgonuovo was indicated on topographic maps starting from 1600. This indicates the presence of a community for a long time, which then consolidated over time and has seen moments of great historical importance, such as the Teano Meeting.
