Hello friends, today I will talk to you about Tavigliano, a Municipality immersed in the beautiful nature of the Biellese Alps. With its 937 inhabitants, Tavigliano is located in the province of Biella, in Piedmont.

Physical Geography

The territory of Tavigliano mainly extends north-south and stretches from the Sessera stream to the northern border to the Cervo at the border with Andorno Micca. The southern area, where the main hamlets of Vincio, Causso, Orecchia, and Sella are located, is the most populated. The central area belongs to the Strona di Mosso basin, while the northern area is part of the Val Sessera. The maximum altitude, of 1617 metres, is reached near Monticchio. Tavigliano is also famous for the Bocchetto di Sessera pass, from which many cross-country ski trails and hiking itineraries start.

Tavigliano: the municipality nestled in the nature of the Biella Alps.

History

For centuries, the Tavigliano area was used as an alpine pasture by the shepherds of Candelo, who built straw-roofed huts there. Subsequently, the inhabited centre developed, becoming first a hamlet of the municipality of Andorno Micca, and then obtaining administrative autonomy in 1699. Pastoralism and agriculture were the main activities, but hat-making soon became the prevailing economy. In 1929, Tavigliano was incorporated into the municipality of Andorno Micca, and then regained administrative autonomy in 1954.

Symbols

Tavigliano's municipal coat of arms was granted by decree of the President of the Republic in 1962.
