The history of Tavernole sul Mella
Tavernole sul Mella boasts a millenary history: already in the 12th century it existed as the municipality of Cimmo and participated in the construction of the parish church of Bovegno. The medieval statutes of Cimmo are among the oldest in the valley and date back to 1372. In 1426, the municipality became part of the Serenissima Republic of Venice. During the centuries of Venetian domination, the Fontana house in Tavernole hosted the "General Valley Council", a fundamental body in the management of valley life.
In 1850, a flood of the Mella river destroyed mills and forges in Tavernole and damaged the famous foundry furnace. In 1826, the first female school in Cimmo was founded. An important event for the town was the opening of the tram line to Brescia, which took place in 1909 after ten years of works.
In 1927, Tavernole-Cimmo merged with Pezzoro and Marmentino. The latter became autonomous again in 1955, and the name became Tavernole sul Mella. In 1929, the "Campo Sportivo Littorio" sports field was inaugurated in the Poia area.
