History

It belonged to some noble families, including the lords of Salerano sul Lambro, the Buttintrocca, and the Rezzonico, of which it was a fiefdom until 1796. However, already in the mid-eighteenth century, Villavesco lost its autonomy, being incorporated into Modignano. Tavazzano, instead, is attested in 1125 when Giovanni Trissino founded a Xenodochio dedicated to St. John the Baptist and developed along the Strada statale 9 via Emilia. In 1869, Tavazzano, Pezzolo di Tavazzano, and Bagnolo joined Modignano, giving rise to the municipality of Villavesco. Throughout the twentieth century, Tavazzano experienced strong building and demographic development, particularly in the area near the railway station.
