Tarzo: hills, valleys, and history at the heart of Veneto

Origin of the name

The toponym Tarzo, first mentioned as "Tarçe" in 1031, derives from the Latin personal name "Tartius". However, the name is a predial without a suffix.

History

Earliest traces

The oldest archaeological evidence found in the area of the Revine Lago lakes dates back to the early Bronze Age (2nd millennium BC), with the presence of humans in this territory.

The Lombards

The arrival of the Lombards in 568 had a great importance for the area, with a dominion of almost two hundred years, which led to the reorganization of the territory, the promulgation of laws, the foundation of parishes and small communities like Tarzo and Corbanese. Tarzo was included in the Duchy of Ceneda, corresponding roughly to the current diocese of Vittorio Veneto.

Symbols

The coat of arms and the flag of Tarzo were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on May 21, 1958. The mitre in the symbol recalls that Tarzo was linked to the bishopric of Ceneda since 1307, of which it was also a vice-county until 1769, with its own statutes issued directly by the bishop since the 15th century.
