Suello

Welcome to Suello!

Hello everyone! Today I will talk about Suello, a municipality in the province of Lecco in Lombardy, Italy. Approximately 1771 people live here and the village is located at the foot of Mount Cornizzolo, between Lake Annone and Lake Pusiano along the road that connects Lecco to Como.

Origins of the name

The name of the village derives from the proper name ''Suillis'' which belonged to a Roman settler who owned a farm along the ''via Bergomum-Comum''.

History

Suello was part of the Contado della Martesana and the parish of Incino during the Middle Ages. In the past, the territory of Suello was feuded by the Serbelloni family until 1796. In addition, from 1927 to 1955 the municipality of Suello was merged with that of Cesana Brianza, giving rise to the municipality of Cesello Brianza.

Symbols

The municipal coat of arms and flag were granted by decree of the President of the Republic on November 4, 1960. The silkworm cocoon recalls the tradition of sericulture and spinning that characterized the economy of the territory in the 18th and 19th centuries; bees are a symbol of industry and industriousness. The flag is divided into yellow and blue.

The new parish church of San Biagio, dedicated also to Saints Quirico and Giulitta, was built in the 1940s and consecrated by Alfredo Ildefonso Schuster. The church was built to replace the old parish church, which was located nearby.
