Do you know what climatic classification Italian municipalities have? Strangolagalli falls into zone D with 1830 GR/G. In short, you can expect a Mediterranean climate with slightly colder winters.

Origins of the name

The meaning of the name Strangolagalli is uncertain, but there are many amusing theories. One hypothesis is that it derives from the Byzantine term "strongylos" (meaning "circular") and the Lombard word "wall" (meaning "palisade"), indicating a fortified place with a circular palisade. Another legend says that the name derives from an ancient siege, in which the citizens would have strangled all the roosters to avoid alerting the enemy. Or yet, a scholar of the seventeenth century placed the villa of one "Astragalo Gallo" in the territory of Strangolagalli, but the name of the person in question could have been invented.

History

Strangolagalli was probably a Roman settlement, as shown by some finds discovered in the area. The castle, which appears in the documents since 1097, would have been originally built by the Lombards and then passed to the Girini, to the lordship of Veroli, and to the D'Aquino. In the fifteenth century, Strangolagalli was at the center of conflicts between Angevins and Aragonese, to then end up under the control of the Papal States in the following century. During World War II, the town suffered damages due to the retreat of German troops.

Symbols

The municipal coat of arms is very peculiar: a silver shield with a rampant fox on the left and a polychrome rooster turned to the right, grabbed by the front paws of the fox.
