Strambino

Hi everyone, today I want to talk to you about Turin, a wonderful city in northern Italy. Turin, or Torino in Piedmontese, is a municipality with a population of about 842,472 inhabitants, and is the capital of the Piedmont region and the Metropolitan City of Turin. It is the fourth largest municipality in Italy by population, and the center of a metropolitan area of about 1.7 million inhabitants.

History

Turin has a two-thousand-year history, having been founded by the Taurini around the 3rd century BC. After being transformed into a Roman colony by Augustus, the city became important during the Ostrogothic domination, and later the capital of an important Duchy of Turin. After passing under the nominal lordship of the House of Savoy in the 11th century, Turin became the capital of the Duchy of Savoy in 1563. In 1720, the city became the capital of the Kingdom of Sardinia where the Risorgimento movement arose, which contributed to the creation of the Kingdom of Italy in 1861.

Economy

Turin is one of the major university, cultural, tourist, artistic, and scientific hubs in Italy. It also forms, with Milan and Genoa, the famous "industrial triangle." The city is one of the major centers of the Italian automotive industry and has hosted important international events such as the International Exposition of 1911, the XX Winter Olympic Games of 2006, the ATP Finals from 2021, and the Eurovision Song Contest in 2022.

Turin: history, art, economy and culture.

Physical Geography

Turin is located in the plain delimited by the rivers Stura di Lanzo, Sangone, and Po and in front of the mouth of some Alpine valleys such as the Val di Susa, which connects the city with nearby France through the Frejus tunnels, and the valleys of Lanzo and Val Sangone.

Art and Architecture

Turin is famous for the beauty of its palaces and royal residences, many of which are part of two UNESCO-protected sites: the Royal Residences of Piedmont or the House of Savoy and the biosphere reserve of the Po hills. Among the most interesting places are the Royal Palace of Turin, the Chapel of the Bankers, the Basilica of Superga, and the Mole Antonelliana.

Culture

Turin is a city famous for its culture and traditions, including culinary delicacies such as vermouth, gianduiotti, grissini, and traditional espresso coffee. The city also has a strong tradition of industrial design and fashion, and is the city where the "Made in Italy" trend originated.

It's no wonder that Turin has been ranked as a global city in the "Gamma" category thanks to its constant international growth in importance.

In conclusion, if you're in Italy, don't miss the opportunity to visit Turin; a city with an extraordinary historical past and great economic prospects.
