Physical geography

Storo is a city with great natural charm, surrounded by mountains and bordered by the famous Idro Lake. The city is located about an hour's drive from Brescia, and it connects to Madonna di Campiglio through the SS 237 Caffaro, and to Riva del Garda through the SS 240 Loppio and Val di Ledro. Storo, along with the cities of Cà Rossa, Darzo, Lodrone, and Riccomassimo, is included in the mountain river basin of the Chiese BIM.

Moreover, the city is an alluvial area above the valley created by the retreat of the glaciers of the last Würm glaciation, which, due to the strong currents of rivers and streams, was devastated in past centuries. However, the city is now very fertile and composed of magnificent natural landscapes.

History

Storo's history dates back to the Neolithic period, and traces of a settlement from this period can still be found, especially in the San Lorenzo martire basin on the slopes of the Rocca Pagana next to the Dosso Cingol. Over the years and centuries, Storo has been inhabited by various populations, including the Cenomani Gauls and the Romans, who occupied it in the expedition against the Stoni.

During the Roman epoch, the Chiese Valley belonged to the municipality of Brescia along with the rest of the Giudicarie and the Basso Sarca. The political-administrative bond with Brescia lasted over 500 years, up to the full Lombard period. There are still many terms that the people of Storo use of Latin origin.

Culture

The city of Storo is historically relevant also for the culture and art that distinguish it. The great history of the city has given rise to numerous churches, palaces, and small treasures that are distributed throughout the city. One of the most important attractions of historical art is the church of San Giorgio Martire.

One of the most important festivals in the city is the Cosèra, held on the first Sunday of May, an event that also has a strong cultural and religious value. On this occasion, the city is adorned with festivities and traditional actions and ancient customs reaffirm the bond between the city and its roots.

Economy

Storo has a strong economy based mainly on tourism, thanks to the strategic location of the city, surrounded by mountains and the Idro Lake. The quality of food is very high, and every year, the city hosts the San Giuseppe Fair, which showcases the typical products that characterize the city. The city, in fact, is a mecca for all lovers of good food and organic products.

In addition to good food, over time the city has also developed a solid tradition of weaving. Storo's fabrics are still created by hand, following ancient techniques handed down from generations.
