The name of the town derives from the presence of a postal station along the mule track that led from Dongo to the San Jorio Pass. A toponym that encapsulates the history of ancient communication routes and mountain passes.

History: from 1335 to the present

The first attestations of the existence of the locality of Stazzona date back to the 13th century. Over the centuries, until the 18th century, Stazzona was affected by a phenomenon of emigration, particularly towards Bologna and Palermo. In 1807 it was annexed to the municipality of Consiglio di Rumo, but the decision was cancelled by the Restoration. From 1928 to 1954 Stazzona formed a single municipality with Germasino.

Religious architecture: the church of San Giuliano and the church of San Gottardo

The church of San Giuliano, consecrated in 1533 after the extension of a 14th century structure, is the parish church. Of the original church, only three pointed arches remain visible inside. Inside, you can admire numerous decorative paintings, including a Slaughter of the Innocents by Giulio Quaglio the Younger and a Paradise by Giovanni Paolo Recchi. The chapel of the Rosary, on the other hand, houses frescoes by Giovanni Battista della Rovere.

The church of San Gottardo, located in the hamlet of Vergosio, dates back to the 16th century and was built to meet the community's needs. The facade is frescoed and features a portico financed by Stazzonesi emigrants in London.
