Albarasca

The Story of Albarasca

Hello everyone, today I want to talk to you about Albarasca, a small hamlet in the municipality of Stazzano located in the Borbera Valley at an altitude of 519 meters, near the divide of the valley.

The history of Albarasca dates back to the time of the Lombards, when the territory was part of the possessions of the Abbey of San Colombano di Bobbio, inserted in the monastic court of Casasco. Subsequently, from 1157, the village passed under the jurisdiction of the bishops of Tortona. During the Middle Ages, Albarasca was part of the Duchy of Milan and from 1738 became part of the domains of the House of Savoy. In 1797 it was annexed to the Ligurian Republic and, after the fall of Napoleon and the Congress of Vienna, followed the fate of the province of Novi, which was part of the Province of the Kingdom of Sardinia. Finally, it became part of Piedmont in 1859 with the Rattazzi Decree.

Local Events

But I don't just want to talk about history, because Albarasca also offers many opportunities to have fun and discover local traditions. For example, during carnival season, the village comes alive with parades of masks and masked parties. In the autumn, instead, the Chestnut Festival is celebrated, a festival dedicated to the typical fruit of the area that offers the opportunity to taste many delicacies made with chestnuts. Finally, during the Bruschetta Festival, you can taste the local bruschetta, seasoned with oil and tomato and accompanied by a glass of good wine.

Notes

It should be noted that until 1929, Albarasca was part of the municipality of Sorli, which is now a hamlet of Borghetto di Borbera. In addition, the village falls into the category of hamlets of Stazzano.

Other Projects

If you are nature lovers, Albarasca is definitely the right place for you. Here you can enjoy an excellent panoramic view of the Borbera Valley and take long walks to discover the surrounding woods. And if you are looking for history and culture, a few kilometers away you can visit the city of Tortona, which offers numerous tourist attractions, including the Cathedral of San Lorenzo.

In conclusion, Albarasca is a small corner of paradise that deserves to be discovered and appreciated for its beauty and traditions. I recommend you to visit it at least once and be enchanted by its unique atmosphere.
