Welcome to Eggi

Hello friends! Today we will talk about Eggi, a small village in the municipality of Spoleto, in the province of Perugia. Eggi is a charming village located on top of a small hill adjacent to the mountains that separate the Valnerina from the Umbrian Valley. This wonderful location has been inhabited by over 481 residents since 2001 according to Istat data.

The history of Eggi

The Roman presence in this area is certain thanks to the amount of remains of tombs and sarcophagi as well as other visible remains adjacent to the Church of San Giovanni. The population of Eggi spread to the village by building a villa with a fortress in the fourteenth century on the hill called Giove or Giovo. In the sixteenth century, the castle of Eggi was a fiefdom of the Racani who financed the embellishment of the local churches. In the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, Eggi expanded both towards the mountain and the valley.

In the nineteenth century, Eggi lost its status as a rural municipality following the Napoleonic occupation and became part of the municipality of Spoleto.
