Azzano

Introduction:

Azzano, a hamlet of the municipality of Spoleto, in the province of Perugia, is situated at an altitude of 239 meters above sea level and inhabited by 103 residents. Its history dates back to the 14th century, when a castle was built to protect the territory from the raids of the Ghibellines.

In 1375, after the expulsion and massacre of the Ghibellines from Spoleto, the castle of Azzano was built. Later, in 1378, Lu Pugiolu was built and then the other fortresses in the surrounding area. In 1489, Azzano contributed to the conquest of the castle of Frenfano with 10 soldiers, near Cascia.
