Spineto Scrivia

Welcome to Spineto Scrivia!

Hello everyone! Today I'll talk to you about Spineto Scrivia, an Italian municipality in the province of Alessandria, located in the beautiful region of Piedmont. With its 379 inhabitants, Spineto Scrivia can be considered a little hidden treasure.

History of Spineto Scrivia

The history of Spineto Scrivia dates back to the consular period, whose documents are now kept in the Historical Archive of the Municipality. During that period, the seat of the consular Congregations was located in the "Castle", which also housed the prison. Today's municipal offices are the remains of the old church, while the new school building was built at the beginning of the 1900s.

Spineto Scrivia was originally known as "Spinèj" in Piedmontese, and it is believed that the toponym derives from the word "thorn", in reference to a Templar station or outpost along the way to Genoa and the sea. The addition of the specific "Scrivia" only took place in 1928. In 1929, the nearby Paderna was incorporated into the Municipality of Spineto Scrivia, but in 1949 it separated and became an autonomous municipality.
