History of Spineda

The first mention of Spineda dates back to 1034, when Ugo, son of the Count of Sabbioneta, decided to exchange some land. In 1084, there is a record of a donation of land to the Diocese of Cremona. In 1177, Federico Barbarossa confirmed the rights of the abbey of the Order of Saint Benedict of Leno on Spineda, which in 1194 passed to the abbey of San Benedetto in Polirone. In the thirteenth century, the town was subject to the municipality of Cremona and in the fifteenth century suffered armed clashes due to the expansion of the duchy of Mantua. During the rule of the Visconti, Spineda was occupied by the Republic of Venice from 1427 to 1438 and during the rule of Spain (1535-1713) was looted twice by the Landsknechts.
