Sozzago
Sozzago, a small Piedmontese town in the province of Novara, is a place with ancient roots and interesting artistic beauty to discover. In this brief guide, we'll talk about it in an informal language and a friendly tone!
History
Sozzago boasts a millennial history, as evidenced by the presence of the Church of San Silvano Martire, built in 1165 and rebuilt in a neo-Romanesque style in the 1960s. The town is linked to the Diocese of Novara, but in 1829 it was transferred to the Diocese of Vigevano in exchange for Gravellona Lomellina. Only in 2016, with a decree from the Congregation for Bishops, Sozzago was returned to the Diocese of Novara.
Monuments and places of interest
The Church of San Silvano Martire is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Sozzago. The neo-Romanesque facade frames interesting late-eighteenth-century frescoes and stuccoes. But it's not the only monument worth noting. In fact, in the town square, you can admire the coat of arms of Sozzago, described as follows: "vert, silver fess bordered with gold bearing the green wording SACIAGUM in Roman capital letters, a golden cross patonce in chief and in base ten golden ears of rice trained and accompanied on the sinister side by a natural frog in bend". A unique and suggestive symbol.
Society
Sozzago is a small town of just over a thousand inhabitants. Its population has undergone demographic changes in recent years, but the municipality offers interesting services and activities for those who live there. It's a peaceful and pleasant place to live.
