Sovramonte

Welcome to Sovramonte!

Hello everyone! Today I'm going to talk to you about Sovramonte, a municipality located in the province of Belluno in the Veneto region. We're happy to welcome you to this charming place in our country, where history, nature, and traditions come together to create a unique experience.

History

Sovramonte is a place of ancient and suggestive charm. Its seven hamlets (Servo, Salzen, Moline, Sorriva, Zorzoi, Aune, and Faller) are located on the homonymous plateau or its slopes, and are part of the Feltrine Alps, particularly the southern appendices of Mount Vallazza.

Once upon a time, getting to Sovramonte meant walking along the "via dello Schener," a path that passed through the Schener Castle, a customs house of the Republic of Venice compared to the Habsburg Empire. Today, however, it's possible to reach the old road from Zorzoi, passing through Bettola.

Overhead: history, nature and traditions in an authentic experience.

Microcommunity

Sovramonte is a place where life has human dimensions, where you can breathe an atmosphere suspended between past and present. The microcommunity, composed of no more than 4,000 inhabitants, has given rise to about ten churches with majestic bell towers and a large number of chapels, niches, and sacred places.

In this context, the parish and the civil community play a fundamental role, as testified by contemporary Feltrine historiography. The personality of the inhabitants, the ideology of the village, and the relationship with life, death, love, and power are interesting aspects to discover.

The 19th-century "hermitage"

The places of Sovramonte are wild but at the same time full of suggestion, with breathtaking views of valleys, cliffs, and gorges. In the 19th century, Sovramonte was described as a kind of alpine "hermitage," a place where nature and spirituality come together.

Sorriva and Sopramonte appeared for the first time in these descriptions, as a sort of "little villa" located under Vallazza. Although Sovramonte is now well connected to the rest of the region, the romantic and wild charm of the past has not disappeared.
