Sovizzo: a medieval Venetian municipality
Sovizzo, also known as Soviso in Venetian language, is a municipality of about 7,500 inhabitants located in the province of Vicenza, Veneto. The first settlements date back to the Neolithic period, but the area became important during the Middle Ages when it was donated to the Chapter of the Cathedral of Vicenza. Sovizzo developed as a rural and agricultural village, but also as an important point of passage for Vicenza and its surroundings.
Monuments and places of interest
Despite being a small provincial town, Sovizzo boasts a cultural and architectural heritage of great value. Among the most important historic villas in the area are Villa Bissari Curti, dating back to the XVI century, Villa Marzotto Schiavo and Villa Civena-Vencato. In the city, the churches to visit are the Church of the Madonna del Carmine in San Daniele, the Church of Santa Reparata in the hamlet of Vigo, the Church of Santa Maria Annunziata and the Church of Santa Maria Assunta.
Culture and education
The San Daniele Choir is a highly renowned male choir that sings mainly songs by Bepi De Marzi. It is possible to attend their performances at the Church of the Madonna del Carmine in San Daniele. In addition, Sovizzo has two schools: the Sovizzo State Comprehensive Institute with the Aldo Moro middle school and the Damiano Chiesa primary school. The Gianni Rodari primary school is located in the hamlet of Tavernelle.

The Little Sanremo is a cycling race that has been held in Sovizzo since 1972 and is reserved for the Under-23 and Elite categories. The race crosses several cities such as Montecchio Maggiore, Creazzo, Altavilla Vicentina, Tavernelle and San Daniele. Among the winners of past editions are Vittorio Algeri, Flavio Vanzella, Marzio Bruseghin, Ivan Basso, Sacha Modolo and Simone Consonni.
