The municipality has a varied morphological conformation that includes much of the Pian di Spagna, the south face of Mount Berlinghera up to 1936 meters above sea level, and the hilly area below 600 meters. Sorico has 5.5 km of lake coast and 6 km of river coast. The abundance of lake territory makes Sorico the natural entrance to Valchiavenna. The Italian wetlands on the Ramsar list include flat and lake-river areas of Sorico.
Hillside
The main characteristic of Sorico's hillside is that it is located between 200 and 600 meters above sea level and extends for about 10 km. This portion of the territory was made fertile by a continuous succession of terraces made up of dry-stone walls. In the past, man had tamed the mountain for his livelihood purposes. However, the advent of prosperity in the 20th century and the migration of peasant interests from the mountain to the plain led to the abandonment of the first portion of the mid-slope just above the banks of the Mera river. The cultivations that were carried out on the hillside preferred Vitis and various fruit cultivars. However, the presence of chestnut groves in this terraced altimetric band was scarce.
