Discovering Canepa, a hamlet of Sori

Cànepa, also known as Càneva in Ligurian language and Cànnia in local dialect, is a hamlet located in the municipality of Sori, in the Metropolitan City of Genoa. One of the peculiarities of this place is the presence of the tomb of economist Tommaso Padoa-Schioppa. But let's try to learn more about the history and attractions of this small Ligurian village.

History

Cànepa was an autonomous municipality until 1929 and, together with the localities of Busonengo, Teriasca, Lago, Levà, Capreno and Sussisa, was a main economic resource linked to agriculture. Like many other villages in the area, the territory came under the control of the Republic of Genoa. With the French domination of Napoleon Bonaparte, the hamlet became part of the Department of Gulf of Tigullio, with the capital of Rapallo, within the Ligurian Republic annexed to the First French Empire.
