The history of Soresina

The history of Soresina has ancient origins: it is believed that the city was already founded in prehistoric times on the islands of Lake Gerundo. Over the centuries, the city has been the subject of numerous clashes and conflicts between the nearby cities of Crema and Cremona. In the 13th and 14th centuries, Soresina was involved in the struggle between the Guelph and Ghibelline factions, and suffered several destructions and reconstructions.

The city experienced a period of great development in the 16th century when it was granted in feud to several noble families. Among these, were the Stanga, Agostino Centurione, Affaitati and Barbò, lords of Soresina until 1714. Under their rule, the city experienced a period of prosperity thanks to the development of agriculture, industry, and commerce.

Soresina under Spanish domination

The period of Spanish domination was the most difficult for Soresina. During this period, the city was hit by numerous wars that devastated the territory and caused many inhabitants to flee. The news of the peace between Spain and France in 1659 was greeted with great joy by the people of Soresina.
