Sorano
Welcome to Sorano!
Hello friends, let me introduce you to Sorano, a small Italian town in the province of Grosseto, located in the wonderful region of Tuscany. We are 3056 inhabitants and we are very proud of our territory and our history. Come discover with me the features of Sorano!
Physical Geography
Territory
Our town is located in the Tufo area, an area where the tuff rock dominates the landscape and creates a spectacular view. Sorano borders with other municipalities, including Castell'Azzara, Acquapendente and Pitigliano. Our village is located in the center of a hilly and very diverse territory, with valleys and reliefs. The altitude varies between 270 meters (in Pianetto di Sovana) and 926 meters (on the summit of Montevitozzo). We also have two main rivers, the Fiora and the Lente, and some thermal springs, known as the Terme di Sorano.
Climate
The climate of our territory varies slightly depending on altitude and exposure, but generally has cold winters and hot summers. In Sorano, the average temperature in the coldest month (January) is 4.5 degrees Celsius, while in July and August it reaches 21.1 degrees Celsius. Rainfall is evenly distributed over 81 rainy days a year, with a peak in autumn. Our village is located in an intermountain basin, which favors moderately and heavily precipitating phenomena.
History
Sorano has a long history that begins with the Etruscans. Our territory was already inhabited in that period, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological remains that we have found in the area. Subsequently, Sorano became a possession of the Aldobrandeschi family. The presence of this house is still visible today, thanks to the numerous palaces and castles that have remained intact over time.
