Songavazzo: nature and history in a municipality in the province of Bergamo.

Songavazzo and its history

Famous for its historic village, Songavazzo has medieval origins. Already in 1294 the village was called ''Summus Gavatio'', for its high position compared to the nearby village of Gavazzo. However, in 1378, Songavazzo was a victim of the struggles between the Guelf and Ghibelline factions and the village was destroyed. Only with the arrival of the Serenissima did the town manage to recover, reaching levels of prosperity and tranquility. After the war, Songavazzo experienced a great tourist development, with a consequent increase in construction. However, the village managed to preserve its historic center and its loggias, keeping its medieval charm intact.

The consultative referendum of November 20, 2016

On November 20, 2016, a consultative referendum was held among the inhabitants of Songavazzo, Onore, Cerete, Rovetta, and Fino del Monte to carry out the merger of the municipalities. These five municipalities had already embarked on a common path since 2000, when the Presolana Union of Municipalities was born. Thanks to this agreement, synergies and mergers of services and functions had been created in recent years. The referendum asked the inhabitants to express their opinion on both the “yes” or “no” to the merger, and on the preference for the new name of the municipality: Borghi Presolana, Borlezza or Larna.

Final verdict

Here is Songavazzo, an enchanting place where nature still rules. If you are looking for a destination for your next trek or simply for a getaway from stress, this is the right place for you. We hope that the five municipalities, including Songavazzo, can find the best solution for the future of their community. In the meantime, let's enjoy the beauties of these precious places.
