Solto Collina
Welcome to Solto Collina!
Hello everyone! Today I would like to tell you about a beautiful place: Solto Collina, a municipality located in the Alta Val Sebino in the province of Bergamo, Lombardy.
The History of Solto Collina
Solto Collina is a medieval village whose origins date back to the 11th century. In a time of great political instability, three powerful families established themselves on the panoramic hill and built a protection system to defend the territory. The fortress was made up of a castle, a tower and a turret. The three families ruled over the village until the 14th century, when the powerful Foresti family acquired the territories of the village. In 1330, Emperor Louis IV of the Holy Roman Empire established the county of Solto and the Foresti family became palatine countess. With the end of the feudal era and the advent of the Republic of Venice, the Foresti family was expropriated. Only in the 20th century were the seven inhabited nuclei that make up the municipality joined together into the current administrative structure.
The Symbols of Solto Collina
The coat of arms of Solto Collina consists of a tower and silver ears of corn. The tower recalls the medieval fortress and the silver ears of corn represent the rural tradition of the village. The flag is a divided cloth of red and blue.
Monuments and Places of Interest
Solto Collina has a rich medieval history and this is reflected in the typical architecture of that period that can be admired in the historic center, perfectly preserved. The narrow streets, cobblestone paving, wells and fountains, gates and stone buildings bring the memory back to several centuries ago. The protection system included the Castle, the Foresti Tower and the Turret. Other examples of medieval architecture can be found in a tower in the district of Sconico, the ancient rectory near the parish church, some remains of walls in the hamlet of Esmate and some houses in the village of Furmignano.
