Soliera: History, Geography, and Symbols of an Emilia-Romagna Municipality.

History

Soliera has a long and interesting history. In 1029, the Marquis Ugo Estense acquired some territories, including Soliera, as reported by Ludovico Antonio Muratori in ''Antichità Estensi''. The strategic proximity of Soliera to Modena and Carpi made the municipality desirable both for the Este and for the Pio di Savoia, who fought for its possession until 1635. Subsequently, the municipality was transformed into a Marquisate under Pietro Campori, whose descendants were feudatories of Soliera until the arrival of Napoleon Bonaparte in 1796. With the Restoration and the return of the dukes of Austria-Este, Soliera became a village of the Municipality of Modena until the Unification of Italy when it became an autonomous municipality.

Symbols

The coat of arms of Soliera was granted in 1862, while the municipal banner and flag were granted respectively in 1979 and 2003.
