Soleminis: a small village in Southern Sardinia
Soleminis, with its 1860 inhabitants, is a town in the province of Southern Sardinia. This small village is only 18 km from Cagliari, along the SS387 highway.
History of Soleminis
The territory of Soleminis is ancient, as evidenced by the numerous archaeological sites in the area: Fac' 'e 'Idda, Necropolis of Is Calitas and Cuccuru Cresia Arta. The town is mentioned for the first time in the 11th century as part of the judicate of Cagliari, in the curatorship of Parteolla. After the Aragonese conquest of the Kingdom of Sardinia, it was given in fief to various Iberian feudal lords, but by the 15th century it was uninhabited. In 1637 the territory was purchased by Francesco Vico, who started the repopulation of the village. In 1812, the marchesato passed to the Amat di San Filippo, and was then redeemed in 1839, becoming a municipality administered by a mayor and a city council.
