Hello friends, today I'm taking you on a journey to discover the Municipality of Solarino, located in the free municipal consortium of Syracuse in Sicily. Solarino has about 7,475 inhabitants and is located on a hill that ranges from 145 to 190 meters above sea level, while the municipal building is located at an altitude of 165 meters.

Physical geography

The municipal territory extends over a hilly area called Valle d'Anapo, which represents the easternmost tip of the Iblei Mountains. The physical boundaries of the territory are delimited by the Cirino and Spampinato-Culatrello quarries to the southwest, the slopes of the high Anapo valley to the northeast and the Piana di Floridia to the southeast. Altitudes range from a minimum of 120 meters in the Macchiotta district to a maximum of 390 meters in the Trigona locality. The agricultural land of Solarino is characterized by the Mediterranean scrub and olive groves of the hilly area, almond, carob and Opuntia ficus-indica trees.

Climate

The climate of Solarino is Mediterranean, with mild winters and fairly hot summers. Temperatures reach the highest values in July and August, with an average of 37°C and peaks even higher than 40°C. The rainiest months are October and November, while July and August are the driest months. Fog and hail are rare, as are days characterized by strong winds. The Solarino area is part of climatic zone C and has a thermal requirement of 966 Degree-days.

The municipal territory of Solarino is considered a medium-high seismicity zone. The predominant lithological reason is characterized by white calcarenite sediments, well cumulated, which on the surface are discreetly altered and incised by valleys where small dry streams flow for most of the year.
