The capital is located 40 meters above sea level and is situated at the mouth of the Val Tramigna. If you reach the hills, you can admire the Berici Mountains and the Euganean Hills.

The sweetness of Soave: discover this Venetian town!

Origin of the name

Soave means "sweet" in Venetian language and is the name of the world-famous wine produced in the hills of the municipality. The origin of the toponym is obscure, but it is thought to derive from the Suaves, a Germanic population that settled in northern Italy and was subdued by the Lombards.

History

Soave has been inhabited since Roman times, as evidenced by the tombs of Castelletto and Cernìga. The castle of Soave, on the other hand, dates back to 934 and was built to defend against barbarian invasions. In 1029, the Parish of San Lorenzo was mentioned among the 48 Foran Vicarages of the Diocese of Verona.

Over the centuries, Soave has undergone various dominations, including French and Austrian. In 1866, with the annexation of Veneto to the Kingdom of Italy, Soave also became part of it.

Symbols

The coat of arms of the City of Soave represents a silver castle on a red background, surmounted by a rampant golden lion. The motto "firmitate" written below indicates the strength and solidity of the town.

Castle of Soave

The Castle of Soave is certainly one of the most famous places in the city. Located on the top of the hill, it dominates the entire surrounding valley and is a destination for tourists from all over the world. Its construction dates back to the twelfth century and has been modified and expanded in the following centuries.

Inside the castle, you can visit the civic museum, which houses the renowned collection of weapons and ancient torture instruments. Despite the passing of time, the Castle of Soave is still well-preserved and represents an important historical and cultural testimony for the city.

Soave wine

Soave wine is the typical product of Soave and here you will find some of the best wineries in the region. The wine is made from Garganega grapes, grown on volcanic soils in the surrounding hills.

Soave is a dry wine, with an almond aroma and a fresh and fruity note. Ideal for accompanying Venetian cuisine, it has become one of the symbols of the Soave territory and is exported all over the world.
