Monuments and places of interest

Church of Santa Maria Assunta

The Church of Santa Maria Assunta is located in the village of Campomorto, dates back to the 14th century, and is attached to the abbey.

Abbey of Campomorto

On the site of a bloody battle between Pavia and Milan in 1061, with the help of Barbarossa's imperial troops, we find the toponym of Campomorto. According to legend, in the Visconti period, Boschino Mantegazza, commander of Gian Galeazzo's troops, and his son, who commanded the Pavese contingent, found themselves fighting behind the two opposing fronts. Boschino fatally wounded his son and, to atone for his guilt, decided to build a church and a convent for pilgrims in the same place as the tragedy. The first was erected shortly after the clash, while the monastery was built by his descendants during the 14th century, where there was already a fortress.
