Sirtori is a beautiful municipality situated on the hills of Meratese, in Lombardy. With its 2813 inhabitants, it offers a perfect oasis of peace and tranquility away from the chaos of the city. A brief history of Sirtori

The origin of the name "Sirtori" dates back to the year 865 when it was attested as "Sirtores". The municipality followed the fate of the Contado della Martesana and the Missaglia pieve, and in 1647, Philip IV of Spain granted it as a fief to the Sirtori family. In 1844, Sirtori definitively incorporated the municipality of Crippa, but in 1928, it was aggregated to the municipality of Barzanò. It was only in 1953 when Sirtori regained its autonomy.

Monuments and places of interest

Sirtori boasts a historical and artistic heritage of great value. Among the religious architectures, stands out the Church of Saints Nabore and Felice, built in 1882. Furthermore, within the complex of Villa Besana, there is the Oratory of the Blessed Virgin Assumed into Heaven, built-in 1686. The Oratory of St. Andrew, on the other hand, dates back to 1626 and is located inside the Cascina Ceregallo.

Regarding civil architectures, we find the Castle of Crippa, built in the fifteenth century as a fortress of the village, the Ruins of the tower of Sirtori dating back to the 10th-11th centuries, the Villa Besana of the sixteenth century, the Cascina Ceregallo of the seventeenth century, the Cascina Bornò, the Cascina Colombei and the Complex of Ronco. Additionally, Sirtori also hosts Italy's tallest tree!

The population of Sirtori

The municipality of Sirtori has a population of 2813 inhabitants. Over the years, there have been several demographic variations, from 250 in 1751 (with Ceregallo) to 1282 in 1961, after the annexation to Barzanò in 1928. Currently, foreigners residing in the municipality are 257, which is 8.7% of the population. The most substantial groups are those coming from Morocco, Romania, and Albania.

Regarding local administration, currently, the mayor of Sirtori is Stefano Andrea Lazzati. The municipality is part of Lecco province in Lombardy.
