Fontane Bianche
Welcome to Fontane Bianche, a marine paradise in southern Sicily
Fontane Bianche is a neighborhood of Siracusa located on the south coast of the city. This locality owes its name to the presence of numerous sources of fresh and clear water that flow onto the beach, making the bathing experience even more enjoyable. With a population of about a thousand inhabitants, Fontane Bianche becomes a highly frequented holiday destination every summer.
The history of Fontane Bianche
Before urbanization, the neighborhood was characterized by a long beach surmounted by farmhouses and cultivated lands. Here, the renowned Moscato di Siracusa was produced, while the vegetation was composed of halophyte plants, steppe, garigue, trees, and Mediterranean bush species. In the years following World War II, Fontane Bianche underwent an important transformation, thanks to the construction of many second homes by the people of Siracusa. In the nineties, the neighborhood was highly frequented for several accommodation facilities, a campground, beach soccer tournaments, and the Palamare, a mobile structure for concerts and events. After a crisis in the early 2000s, the area has had a social and economic recovery thanks to the renovation of many villas and the opening of new beaches and venues.
The features of Fontane Bianche
The Fontane Bianche beach is the longest in the Siracusa area and offers a sea that is almost always calm and flat, thanks to the particular morphology of the territory. The locality is almost exclusively composed of independent villas and enjoys a lot of greenery thanks to the presence of a pine forest behind the beach. Here there are five beaches and a free beach, with clear and fine sand and shallow waters particularly suitable for children. In the summer, Fontane Bianche becomes a reference point for bathers arriving from all over Sicily and even from abroad.
The autonomy of Fontane Bianche
For just over a decade, Fontane Bianche and the neighboring Cassibile have been trying to obtain administrative autonomy from Siracusa to form a new municipality. A committee has been established for this purpose that aims to achieve this goal through a referendum.
In conclusion, Fontane Bianche is a welcoming and picturesque Sicilian locality, where imperial marine landscapes and nature blend harmoniously. This is the ideal destination for swimmers and tourists who are looking for a corner of paradise where they can spend the summer, enjoying the warmth of the sun and the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean.
