Hello everyone! Today I want to talk to you about a charming place in central-eastern Sardinia, La Caletta (or "Sa Calitta" in Sardinian). This small town of about two thousand inhabitants is mainly dedicated to tourism, commerce, and commercial fishing. La Caletta is one of the main summer destinations in the area thanks to its beautiful beach, port, and strategic location, which allows easy access to the north and south areas of the eastern coast of the island.

The history of La Caletta

Not everyone knows that in the 19th century, the inhabitants of the village called the place "Pedras Nieddas" (meaning "black stones"). According to some, moreover, in the area of the Tower of San Giovanni (Posada), in the municipality of Posada, there was the medieval port of La Caletta, consisting of a natural landing, called in the past of the Sardinian judges San Giovanni di "Portunono" (meaning "new port"). But La Caletta is also famous for being the location of the 1956 novel by André Pieyre de Mandiargues, "The sea lily".
