It was born on January 1, 2015 from the merger of the municipal territories of Giuncugnano and Sillano, and has a population of about 980 inhabitants. The town hall is located in Sillano, while there is a detached office in Magliano in Garfagnana. The territory of the municipality is part of the Garfagnana Union of Municipalities and the area of the Tosco-Emiliano National Park.
