Silandro is located 32 km from Merano and 60 km from Bolzano. The town is located at the foot of Mount Sole, on the deposition cone of the Silandro stream. The municipality borders to the south with the mouth of the Martello Valley and includes the peaks of the Ötztal.

Prehistory
In the Neolithic era, the Silandro area was frequented by nomadic shepherds and hunters. In 3200 BC the situation probably corresponded to that of the settlement area of Mummia del Similaun.
Roman Era
During the Roman era, the Silandro area was conquered by the Romans and subsequently populated. The first stable settlement was born on the hills of Mount Sole, as the valley was marshy.
