Taverne D'arbia

Welcome to Taverne d'Arbia!

Hello everyone! Today we will be talking about Taverne d'Arbia, one of the most populous hamlets in the Municipality of Siena, located in Tuscany. With its approximately 2500 residents, Taverne d'Arbia is located only 13 km from the city of Siena and is situated on the eastern border of the municipal territory.

History

The locality of Taverne d'Arbia was probably founded in Roman times as a "mansio" located near the Arbia stream. In 1004, the existence of a church dedicated to Santa Margherita located in "Tavernule" was documented. Here, on the Poggio delle Ropole, the Sienese troops were encamped who fought the bloody battle of Montaperti, described by Dante Alighieri in the Divine Comedy.

Taverne d'Arbia: a fraction of Siena between history, art, and nature.

Monuments and places of interest

If you find yourself in Taverne d'Arbia, you can't miss the parish church dedicated to the patron saint of the hamlet, Sant'Isidoro. The church was built in the 1960s and inside there is an imposing pipe organ, Disposizioni foniche di organi a canne/Italia/Toscana/Provincia di Siena/Siena/Taverne d'Arbia - Chiesa di Sant'Isidoro Claudio Anselmi Tamburini ''opus 29'', built in 1986.

Another point of interest in Taverne d'Arbia is the three-arched bridge that crosses the Arbia stream. The bridge was designed in 1787 by Pietro Ferroni, replacing an ancient bridge documented since 1353.

If you are an art lover, you can't miss the two large murals created by the artist Francesco Del Casino at the overpass under the Siena-Bettolle road. Both commissioned by the Taverne and Arbia Blood Donors Avis group, one mural commemorates the historic Battle of Montaperti, which took place nearby, while the other has solidarity as its theme.

Finally, Taverne d'Arbia has one of the largest disused areas to be recovered compared to the whole Municipality of Siena: the former Molino Muratori. This large area, about 20,000 m2, is still waiting to be renovated and used for social and cultural purposes.
